5/2/25: Google Ads News & More: Google Ads Transparency & Falling Engagement

Google Engagement is Falling

  • Users are visiting Google more often but staying less. Total visits are up after AI Overviews launched in May 2024, but Time-on-site is flat or declining.

Google Ads Payment Profile Transparency

  • Starting today, Google is displaying the payer name – drawn from an advertiser’s payment profile – if it differs from their verified advertiser name. This can cause headaches for agency owned payment profiles that have not yet been updated.

Reddit Continues to Grow

  • Reddit published its latest earnings results, showing an increase in users, and a big jump in year-on-year revenue, as the platform continues to re-shape its ad business.

Amazon Tariffs
  • Amazon was at the center of the debate around tariff related price transparency. Reports surfaced that Amazon was considering displaying tariff related fees to consumers. The White House immediately attacked the story and Amazon quickly denied the plans ever existed.

The rapid news cycle highlighted the bind that many businesses find themselves in:

    • Price increases are inevitable. Transparently connecting the tariffs to the price increases can anger the MAGA crowd, but caving to the White House will anger everyone else.

Lost in this debate is also the concern that businesses may use tariff-related fears to price gouge as they did during COVID.

It never hurts to have someone kick the tires. Our paid media audits include high level strategy, campaign-specific settings and everything between!
