Google Ads Demo Slam 2025 - Top 10 Takeaways
1) Ads in AI Overviews and AI Mode
What Google showed/confirmed: Ads embedded in AI Overviews are rolling out on desktop in the U.S.; AI Mode (the new AI-powered search interface) is testing ad insertions labeled “Sponsored.” Expect English-market expansion later in 2025.
Big reach where user search is evolving to quickly
Reporting/controls aren’t fully granular yet
2) “AI Max for Search”
What: Google’s next-gen Search layer that blends query expansion + creative optimization under a single control—designed to capture incremental demand.
Great for scale BUT watch query quality...some weird things pop up for sure.
Test in-campaign experiments on lower-risk ad groups
3) Smart Bidding Exploration
What: Lets bidding “stretch” intelligently to uncover conversions beyond rigid ROAS targets.
Finds hidden volume; can sometimes hurt efficiency KPIs if left unchecked.
4) Performance Max gets channel-level reporting
What: PMax transparency upgrades including channel performance and richer search/asset insights. This was spotlighted at GML and demoed again here.
Roll out has been slow and spotty - talk to your Google reps
5) Creative inside Ads: Veo/Imagen tools moving into Google Ads & Merchant Center
What: Google’s video (Veo) and image (Imagen) generation land inside Ads workflows to speed creative production.
Set brand guidelines (colors/fonts/voice) and human QA gates before any AI-generated asset hits production.

6) Demand Gen: more 'social-style' rigor + commerce hooks
What: Demand Gen continues to add reporting and surface/format options, positioning it as a true social-style performance channel across YouTube & visual surfaces.
Great for upper-mid funnel, especially retail and creator-driven brands.
The only campaign type left where you can test look-for-likes (Do it! preferably with 1st party data over pixels/cookies which are limited)
7) YouTube: Deeper shoppable experiences
What: More shoppable video and checkout-shortening experiences across YouTube/visual placements (some highlighted at GML, re-demoed here).
Shorter click-to-cart paths for DTC.
Ensure product feeds + cart deep links are pristine
8) Measurement & data: Easier lift tests, modern stack guidance
What: Google emphasized incrementality, first-party data plumbing, and agentic “helpers” to make adoption less painful.
Lowering the bar for robust testing is overdue.
Stand up a quarterly lift roadmap (per channel) and unify outcomes in a single-view dashboard.
9) Agentic capabilities “copilot” for marketers
What: New agentic flows assist with setup, insight surfacing, and recommendations—especially for smaller teams.
Time-saver, but we still want human oversight on bids/structure.
Restrict to suggest-only in phase 1; log and review any auto-applied changes weekly.
10) Conclusion: AI surfaces are scaling fast
Context: Google reported massive reach for AI Overviews this year; industry outlets expect AI search ad spend to climb sharply through 2029. Translation: these surfaces will matter.
Early adopters will win. Soon to be normalized...
