4/25/25: Google Ads & Meta Threads: Big Week for Threads and Search Changes

Google to Serve Ads in Top and Bottom Positions

  • Google will now allow relevant Search ads from advertisers who showed amongst top ads to also participate in the bottom ads auction. As a reminder, the definition of top ads changed about a year ago, as Google began mixing ads in various organic positions throughout the search results.

Meta Expanding Ads to Threads

  • Threads feed will be default on within Advantage+ and Manual Placements for new campaigns leveraging select objectives (Reach, Traffic, Sales).

  • Advertisers must maintain IG feed placement in order to run on Threads feed; standalone Threads feed campaigns are not supported.

  • Ads in Threads feed support 16:9 to 1:1 ratio image ads. Ads outside of this aspect ratio are also supported but will be cropped to fit. We recommend repurposing existing IG and FB static feed assets (1:1 preferred), and testing and learning to understand which of your creatives performs best in the placement.

‘Threads.com’ Domain

  • Threads moves to the Threads.com Domain and gets new Desktop UI

Temu Paused Google Shopping
  • Temu paused Google Shopping on April 9 and their App Rank immediately plummeted, highlighting much Google Shopping was driving the business. Optimists hope for some slight relief in competition as they exit the auction.
